La traviata (Italian for "Those who have gone astray"[1]) is an opera by Giuseppe Verdi (music) and Francesco Maria Piave (libretto) based on the novel La dame aux camélias (1848) by author Alexandre Dumas the Younger in February 1852 it was also staged as a play. The opera began on 6 March 1853 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
